When you step into a professional interview, it is best to have already thought about the questions you are likely to be asked and how you will respond. You might be asked, What is a typical day like The hiring manager may ask about your workday so he or she can understand how you approach your job and what kind of tasks you can manage effectively. For this reason, you really want to emphasize your most productive moments and how you overcome any challenges or obstacles.

The hiring manager asked this question because he or she wants some specifics on what you normally do and what kind of workload you can handle. Be honest and show what your real day is like.

  • Emphasize how you are an effective employee on a daily basis.
  • Showcase your enthusiasm for your work and profession.
  • Focus on the result of your efforts and skills.
  • Concentrate on tasks and projects that relate to the position.Remember to remain confident and positive in your response. Also, this is a great time to showcase enthusiasm for your position and/or industry.

While you do want to share some specifics about your workday, you do not need to provide the hiring manager with an hour-by-hour replay. Keep these tips in mind to help guide your response:

  • Avoid giving answers about perfect situations over realistic responses.
  • Do not take responsibilities for tasks you do not normally perform.
  • Avoid criticizing coworkers or supervisors.
  • Do not state common problems or issues without showing how you overcome them.Even if you do happen to have plenty of down time at your current or past position, leave these details out of your response. Instead, draw attention to your productivity.

Sample Answer

Here is an example of a good answer to the question about your typical workday:

During my typical workday, I am responsible for overseeing my teams as they progress on various advertising campaigns. I check in and help them with any issues they may be having such as doing mock-ups or securing rights to songs. I keep in touch with clients, update them on our progress and make sure they are satisfied with the promotional materials.

Outline your most common tasks and show the full range of what you are capable of. The hiring manager wants to see that you are both dedicated to your position and committed to working effectively in any situation. This will help you distinguish yourself as the best candidate for the position.
