Sample Answer 1

Apart from Ludo and Carrom, whenever all of my cousins or friends come home, we have at least one game of Scrabble. Being a voracious reader, I stock up on words mainly so that it helps me during the game and improves my vocabulary.

The game of Scrabble was invented by Alfred Mosher Butts, who was a New York architect, in 1931. His attempt was to create a game that was an amalgamation of anagrams and crosswords and involved a bit of luck and a great deal of skill. I was introduced to this game by one of our English teachers in school. She used to engage us in different types of activities and fun games through which we learnt grammatical rules or concepts and enriched our word power. Scrabble was one such game. Besides teaching us how to play this game, she even shared her tips for the game.

After I learnt the tricks of the game, my mother gifted this board game to me on my birthday. Since then, I have enjoyed playing it with any interested person. Due to recent technological advancements, the game is no more restricted to the board. There are multiple scrabble game apps that you can download on your phone or computer.

After Monopoly, Scrabble is the second-highest popular game and is sold in 121 countries and comes in 31 different languages. I like to find out different ways to defeat my opponent using my word knowledge and it is also a good exercise for my brain. Recently, I came across a word that makes it possible to score 1782 points on a single word. It is Oxyphenbutazone. While the English Scrabble has 100 tiles, its Italian and Portuguese counterparts have 120 tiles. Besides being a fun game, I also use Scrabble to teach English to some of the younger family members.DOWNLOAD FREE EBOOKS

Games are great refreshments, be it indoors or outdoors. My favourite indoor game is carrom.

Carrom is indeed a type of game where you need prior knowledge and experience. But when you just want to have a good time, you need not worry about those. I learnt it in a similar way. One day, while playing with my sister, she introduced me to the various coins and shared some ground rules that I had to follow. For example, she told me to tip well and strike the coins with the striker.

I usually play with my sister. When I was young, and my friends used to come over to visit, we spent the evening playing carrom and several other indoor games. Now, I play carrom with my friends in college during breaks.

I enjoy this game because I have made many new friends in college just by playing this game. It has helped me to bridge the communication gap. Now, we have advanced digitally, and we often forget to appreciate what we had or have. This simple game helped me realise that we can be happy without our phones and spend time with the people we care about. Although all indoor games represent this idea, personally, I am fond of carrom only. Indoor games signify this idea. Nowadays, as we have grown up, no one comes and visits our houses just to play some games. Everyone is busy in their own lives, and when I play this game, it reminds me of the old memories I have in my mind and will hold onto.
